The summer seems to be flying by, and in about a month and a half, fall sports will start back up. Now is the perfect time to hit the weight room and get ready for the upcoming season.  During the middle of the offseason, motivation to train can slightly decrease. Early mornings, doing the same things over and over again, can become repetitive and exhausting. However, it’s so important that athletes are keeping their motivation high, and continuing to work hard throughout the rest of the summer.  At Warren Academy, our Summer Training Program is designed to get athletes ready for their upcoming season. Below, we go over some ways any athlete can stay motivated as we head into the second half of summer training.  Make training fun One way to help improve your off-season motivation is to incorporate some fun into your workouts and training sessions. Yes, the off-season can be boring; but it’s all what you make of it. Doing the same exercises during the same days each and every week is good when it comes to following a set plan, however, it never hurts to mix it up every once in a while.  There are a number of ways that you incorporate “fun” into your off-season. One of the best ways to make training more fun is by adding some sort of competition. Competing with teammates during training drills or skill work will make training more enjoyable as well as push you to work harder! Things like 1v1 drills or small group training competitions help athletes stay motivated throughout the summer! Stay mentally strong To work hard and improve your physical strength throughout the summer, athletes must be mentally strong. Summer training can become exhausting, but mental strength is what helps athletes keep pushing forward. One of the best ways to stay strong mentally is by creating and sticking to a regular routine. Waking up and going to bed at a good time each day, as well as making sure to eat quality nutrients, will help you stay focused and mentality prepared for each day.  Allow your body to rest and recover Lastly, one of the best ways athletes can keep themselves motivated to train, as well as able to train, is allowing time for your body to rest and recover. It’s important to listen to your body and take the allocated time off as needed. This doesn’t mean to simply skip a workout when you’re tired. Nor does it mean it’s okay to take full weeks off at a time. However, if you’re feeling absolutely exhausted, sometimes all your body needs is a day to recover. Doing so will help athletes get the most out of their training sessions!  Summer training can become very repetitive, and because of this, some athletes may lose focus. However, setting goals, allowing your body to rest and recover and having fun will help athletes stay motivated and focused on reaching their goals. At Warren Academy, we offer a variety of sports performance training programs designed to help athletes reach their athletic goals. Interested in learning more about our programs?
